I really enjoy a good latte. There is a local coffee shop up the street from me and their latte is one of the best I have ever had. Way better than Starbucks. So I wanted one today but rather than get in the car and drive over, I decided to make one myself. At home without any of the fancy equipment.
I wanted to know how to make a homemade latte with only the things I had in the kitchen. I had read several ways to do so on different websites, so I decided I could do it too.
How to Make a Homemade Latte
Like I said, I don’t have a cappuccino machine, I don’t have a milk steamer but I had an idea. So let me share with you my idea on how to make a homemade latte without any of the fancy equipment.
Here’s what you need.
- Coffee – Your best coffee, dark espresso if you have it. If not, your choice.
- Cup – Duh. (you need two of them)
- Jar with lid – This is to froth the creamer or milk.
- Milk or creamer – I prefer a sweet cream since I don’t have a flavored syrup.
- Microwave – Who doesn’t have one.
- Strainer and coffee filters – It is a slow brew method.
Making the Latte
Step 1. Add water to your cup and heat it in the microwave for about one minute.
Step 2. Put a coffee filter in your strainer.
Step 3. Add your favorite coffee in the filter. Preferably fresh ground beans.
Step 4. Take your favorite latte cup and place the strainer with the filter and coffee on the top of the cup.
Step 5. Slowly pour the heated water over the coffee grounds. You want the water to seep into the cup.
Step 6. Pour some creamer or milk into a microwaveable jar and heat it for about 20 seconds or so. Depending on how hot you want it.
Step 7. While the coffee is seeping into your latte mug or cup, take the creamer from the microwave and put the top on the jar. Start shaking it like there is no tomorrow. This will froth it in less than a minute.
Step 8. By this time the coffee is waiting in your cup. Move the strainer with the grounds and start adding the frothy creamer or milk.
Step 9. Be amazed that you just made a homemade latte without fancy equipment.
Step 10. Drink and Enjoy!
There you have it. Now you know how to make a homemade latte and you can do it without any fancy equipment.
Take the $4.75 you would have spent on a latte at a coffee shop and put it in a jar. Next year you can take a vacation on the savings.
